José Rodriguez joined the University of Miami Libraries in July 2021 as Head of Access Services. In this role, José provides leadership, management, and coordination for all aspects of the Access Services department at the Otto G. Richter Library and Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library and collection space utilization at off-site storage.

In December 2022, José became the Director of Access Services and Learning Commons. In this restructured role, José leads the library units physically located in Richter Library and Weeks Music Library that welcome, orient, and support the learning and research needs of the University of Miami’s diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, both in-person and online. These needs include access to library resources and equipment, course materials, study spaces, academic tutoring, and other services. In this work, José collaborates with the Learning Commons’ academic service partners and the subject-specialty libraries (Architecture, Business, Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, and Medical) in order to provide a seamless, consistent user experience of library services and spaces and foster innovative new collaborative learning initiatives that enhance the student experience.

José holds a B.A. in history and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. Since 2005, José has held various library public services roles at Hillsborough Community College and State College of Florida. Before his current position with UML, José was the Outreach Librarian for the Social Sciences and supported the departments of Psychology, Neuroscience, Global Studies, and the Honors College at Georgia State University.
