UM Makerspaces


University of Miami Makerspaces
The University of Miami has many makerspaces available to students on campus that specialize in different areas of creating. University of Miami Libraries in collaboration with UMIT Academic Technologies is here to support research and lerning in these types projects and can guide you to the best resources on campus.
Academic Technologies
Academic Technologies is focused on the teaching and learning side of IT. We work closely with faculty and students on projects related to teaching and learning. We support computer labs, reading capture, student technology support, instructional design, and learning platforms that enhance online and technology-enriched courses.

The unit is divided into the following teams:

UM Libraries provides the highest quality access to collections, information services, learning support, and digital expertise in support of the University’s mission to transform lives. The Libraries welcome and incorporate advances and innovations in information technology and scholarly communication.

UM Libraries is home to the Creative Studio which provides expert support and consultation in the use of audiovisual and multimedia technology.

College of Engineering

The UM College of Engineering – Johnson & Johnson 3D Printing Center of Excellence Collaborative Laboratory allows the realization of cooperative educational and research opportunities for students, as well as faculty researchers in multiple disciplines. The facility provides access to a wide variety of advanced 3-D printers and fabricating equipment, and will have a full-time engineer/scientist available for training purposes.

Visualization Lab
The IDSC Visualization Lab (Viz Lab) is a free resource to the UM community. Capable of accommodating 14 people, it’s is an impressive space to host a class or your next meeting.The Viz Lab is the perfect tool for high performance parallel visualization, data exploration, and other advanced simulations, and features a Mechdyne 3D-Display and a Cyviz 2D-Display.
