Nicola Hellmann-McFarland is the Reading Room Operator and Research Assistant of the Kislak Center at University of Miami Libraries Special Collections. 

Nicola joined the Special Collections' team in 2016 after relocating to the US from Cologne, Germany. 

Nicola holds a Master in Modern Languages (English and American Studies) from the University of Düsseldorf. She is currently enrolled at Florida State University in the Master of Science in Information (MSI) program with a concentration on Digitization. She is expecting to graduate in summer 2021.

Nicola is a member of SAA (Society of American Archivists) and ALA (American Library Association).

Nicola has been a photo editor since 1997 and has worked for German photo agencies in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne. A job that brought her in contact with some of the most interesting and creative people in the world of photography.

Nicola remains passionate about photography, loves going to the movies - and her dogs.
