Learning & Research Services Librarian
Vera Spika joined UM Libraries in mid-August 2014 as the subject specialist for nursing and health studies, psychology, and biology. A native of Canada, Vera earned a bachelor of arts in psychology (minors in political science and Spanish) at the University of Calgary in Alberta, a master’s degree in social work from Wilfred Laurier University in Ontario, and finally, after a career in medical social work, a master’s degree in library and information science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C.
Although library work has taken her to various parts of Canada, Vera has always returned to Vancouver to where her brother and sister migrated years ago to enjoy the gentler winters of the west coast. Now in Miami, Vera’s winters couldn’t be better.
