Librarian Associate Professor Koichi Tasa was appointed University Archivist at the University of Miami in 2007. He has responsibility for the acquisition, organization, and preservation of materials that document the University's institutional history. He has developed programs that provide innovative access to the University Archives' rich holdings through concierge reference services, digitized collections, student classes, and an active exhibitions program. He has aggressively digitized UM’s important historical resources such as the Office of the President Records, The Miami Hurricane, and the Historical Photograph Collection.
Prior to his current appointment, Koichi was an archivist on the Medical School Faculty at UM's Louis Calder Memorial Library. His primary focus was on the history of the University's Medical School, including the tenure of Emanuel M. Papper, M.D., Ph.D., who served as Dean from 1969 to 1981. Prior to Miami, Mr. Tasa was a Vice President at the American Association of Advertising Agencies where he led international information services for member agencies.
Mr. Tasa earned an M.L.S. from the School of Library Service, Columbia University in 1991 while working for its C. V. Starr East Asian Library as Library Specialist creating original cataloging records for Japanese monographs and serials. In 2006, he received a certificate from the Modern Archives Institute, National Archives and Record Administration
