Learning & Research Services Librarian
William Jacobs joined the University of Miami Libraries in February, 2007. He is responsible for collection development and liaison work for the Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science departments as well as the University's College of Engineering.
Mr. Jacobs' present appointment follows a freelance career writing and researching for popular science magazines and documentaries. Notable clients include Popular Science and Discover magazines and the Discover Magazine documentary series.
He studied physics at the University of Delaware as an undergraduate and earned Master’s degrees in Astronomy at San Diego State, Science Journalism at Boston University and Library Science at Pratt Institute in New York.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the Engineering Libraries Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is active in the Physics/Astronomy/Math division of SLA at a national level including acting as moderator for the PAM division roundtable at the SLA's 2008 conference.
He has a strong interest in science information literacy, particularly for non-scientists and is currently developing and teaching a class on the topic.
