About the collection

The present international studies collection at the Libraries is builtupon a donation of two hundred books written by authors of Hispanicorigin given to the University by students from Latin America enrolledat UM in 1936.

The University's founding vision was of an internationaluniversity and the collection has expanded through steady support since1936 with accelerated growth in 1964 when the University dedicated itsnew Center for Advanced International Studies and again from 1983through the early 1990s when special funds were provided annually fromthe University's North-South Center.

The collection supports researchand study from the undergraduate to graduate levels in InternationalStudies as well as specific area studies in Africa, the Caribbean, theEuropean Union, Latin America and the Middle East.
